The
Department
of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC)
has released a revised draft of the Inland Bays Pollution
Control Strategy (PCS). The strategy and accompanying regulations are designed to reduce the amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus entering the Indian River, Indian River Bay, Rehoboth Bay, the Little Assawoman Bay and their tributaries to the level required by the Total Maximum Daily Loads for these watersheds. The PCS includes many actions recommended by a diverse group of stakeholders, who worked together over the course of several years to meet the goal of improving water quality in the Inland Bays.
The Department will hold a Public Information Meeting on the proposed regulations on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 6:00 PM at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Hall (229 Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971).
A Public Hearing will be held Monday, June 23, 2008 at 6:00 PM at the Georgetown CHEER Center (20520 Sandhill Road, Georgetown, DE 19947).
The public comment period for the proposed regulations begins June 1, 2008 and ends June 30, 2008 at 4:30 PM. Written comments may be submitted to John Schneider, DNREC, Division of Water Resources, Watershed Assessment Section, 820 Silver Lake Boulevard, Suite 200, Dover, DE 19904-2464; facsimile: 302-739-6140; email: John.Schneider@state.de.us. Electronic submission is preferred.
