Tributary Times

Summer has arrived in the
Appoquinimink Watershed!

The Appoquinimink Tributary Action Team/Appoquinimink River Association will hold its next formal meeting in September.  We'll be spending the summer months finalizing the organization of our new non-profit organization; meeting with committees; hiring an education and outreach coordinator; and working on outreach projects and events, such as the Middletown Peach Festival and the Smartyards Program.

Several of our committees will be meeting through the summer.   The Pollution Control Strategy committee will meet to work on the team’s recommendations in order to submit them to DNREC.  Our Board of Directors will also be working on the bylaws and organization structure of the Appoquinimink River Association.  We will be also be hiring a full time outreach and education specialist to implement public outreach and technical and non-technical best management practices in the Appoquinimink Watershed region.

The Appoquinimink TAT/River Association will be participating in the Middletown Peach Festival on Saturday August 21st.  We will have a new display and are designing a children’s game for the festival.  We're looking for volunteers to help out at our table, and invite you to take part.

Keep an eye out for our new brochures!

Registration for participants in the Smartyards Program, a free backyard habitat program offered to watershed residents sponsored through the Delaware Nature Society and DNREC, will begin this summer.  Look for upcoming articles in the Middletown Transcript and the Tributary Times for more information about the program and how to participate.

Contact Cortney Worrall at if you have any questions or would like to get involved with the TAT or the Appoquinimink River Association and check our calendar for more updates on the next meeting.

Thanks and Happy Summer!
