Pollution Control Strategy Development
Seasonal Scientist/Planner
Watershed Assessment Section
Delaware Division of Water Resources

We are currently seeking a seasonal scientist/planner for the Watershed Assessment Section.  The successful candidate will assist in the development of Pollution Control Strategies in Delaware’s watersheds by providing support for Tributary Action Teams.  A Pollution Control Strategy is a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) implementation plan.  A TMDL sets the maximum amount of a pollutant that a waterbody can assimilate while still achieve water quality standards.  These standards are based on the uses of the water body (swimming, aquatic life, etc.).

Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • writing articles for the Tributary Times newsletter
  • authoring fact sheets on technical issues for a public readership
  • conducting research
  • attending meetings (some evening meetings are required)
  • assisting in meeting and conference planning
  • other projects as needed (past projects have included wastewater performance standards, nutrient budgets, outreach events, group facilitation, etc.).

Applicants should have familiarity and experience using GIS, Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint.  Excellent writing and research skills, time management and ability to multi-task, and an interest in working with collaborative processes and citizen groups are required.  Knowledge of nonpoint source pollution and the practices used to reduce it are preferred.

37.5 hours per week (full time), hourly position.  Benefits are not available.
