Secretary and Treasurer Needed for the
Appoquinimink River Association

By Dan O’Connell, President of the Board of Directors

Apooquinimink River Association logoHave you seen recent articles in the Middletown Transcript about lawn fertilizing and backyard habitat programs featuring the Appoquinimink River Association? If so, that's because we're on the move and we're busy.

We have lots of projects planned for the next year — workshops on how to use native plants in your yard, stormwater pond maintenance, environmentally-friendly landscaping contests, and improvements at local parks.

We are also in the final stages of completing our environmental study of the Appoquinimink watershed.  This research promises vital information on what the watershed and the Appoquinimink River really need in order to stay healthy.

All of our work up to this point has been accomplished by dedicated volunteers and through funding from the State of Delaware.  We will continue to need lots of volunteer help, especially since our funding from the state will become more limited for the future.

What volunteer help do we need now?  We're looking for a secretary and a treasurer to serve on the Appoquinimink River Association’s Board of Directors. If you would like to help out an organization that will make a difference for our local environment, why not give us a few hours a month?

The secretary will participate in board meetings, keep minutes, and help us with announcements and notices to our subcommittees.

The treasurer will oversee our financial health and help us with some simple accounting and bookkeeping matters.

Our board meets about once every two months.  We think you'll find the issues we are dealing with of immediate importance to our community.

Please contact Sara Wozniak or call her at (302) 382-0335 if you are interested or have any questions about other volunteer opportunities we have.  If you are interested in serving on our board in another capacity, please let us know.  We look forward to hearing from you!
