The University of Delaware's Institute for Public Administration - Water Resources Agency (IPA-WRA) has been facilitating the Christina Basin Tributary Action Team since February, 2006. The team has been drafting the Pollution Control Strategy for the Christina Basin from the 39 recommendations the team identified. The PCS contains the tools to meet the TMDLs set for the Delaware portion of the Christina Basin and will serve as a springboard for the agencies and organizations working in the watershed.
The team will hold its final meeting at 6:30 PM on Monday, November 5 at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington, when it will present the Christina Basin Pollution Control Strategy to DNREC's Secretary John Hughes. IPA-WRA and the Delaware Nature Society (one of the key players on the team) are coordinating the final PCS meeting with the Society's final lecture in their two year series on the Christina Bay watersheds.
The lecture is divided into three parts focusing on the Christina River watershed:
- The history, culture and natural resources of the watershed
- The watershed's location in the Christina Basin, challenges to water quality, and management initiatives
- Speakers discussing two stormwater best management practices: green roofs and the City of Wilmington's stormwater utility
IPA-WRA and the Delaware Nature Society will begin the meeting with the signing ceremony for the Pollution Control Strategy. The team members have been invited to sign the PCS on behalf of the team. Martha Corrozi, the team's facilitator will formally submit the plan to DNREC.
The meeting will be an opportunity for you to meet the Christina Basin Tributary Action Team and celebrate their commitment to achieving TMDLs for the basin. Come join us in wrapping up this phase of the basin's Pollution Control Strategy process.
